The annual HX Awards were held last night—in Chelsea, of course—and the gay bar mag’s winners turned out to be an illustrious bunch of drag queens and bartenders, though some of them strangely forgot to leave their own happy hours and show up to accept. The winners I most remember are:
Best Drag Queen: Peppermint (The gunshot you hear is from Mimi Imfurst, though I’m not sure if it’s aimed at herself or at Peppermint.)
Best TV Show: Project Runway (It must be gayer than springtime because it beat Gossip Girl!)
Best Blog: PerezHilton.com (Perez’s videotaped acceptance speech got booed when he started plugging a film project. Ingrates!)
Best Gay Club: Splash. (The loving home I never had.)
Best Gay Bar: (tie) Barracuda, the Ritz. (Ditto.)
Best Stage Show: Xanadu. (A place where nobody straight dares to go.)
And there were also esteemed honors bestowed upon Garden of Ono, Mr. Black, Candis Cayne, Star Fridays at the Chelsea Hotel, Junior Vasquez, Daniel Nardicio, and our new governor for being so gay marriage-friendly.
But that all leaves me a little bit confused. If I end up marrying the best gogo boy (William)–and I’m quite certain that’s going to happen–should we do it at Barracuda or the Ritz? Help!
