Celebrating its 10th anniversary, the Harlem Book Fair is back, bringing together the diverse talents within the African-American literary and arts communities for three days of readings, panels, performances, and parties. If you feel like dressing up, tonight’s Wheatley Book Award rolls out the red carpet to honor four decades of black book publishing. Over the weekend, there’ll be thought-provoking panel discussions on history, literacy, and race, writing and poetry workshops, performances by spoken-word artists, children’s activities, live music by the Tyrone Birkett Group and Black Betty and the Polka Dot Crusaders, and, of course, plenty of delicious soul food to go around.
