Television media jumped all over yesterday’s announcement by Boulder, Colorado district attorney Mary Lacy that she has finally, ultimately cleared the parents of JonBenet Ramsey of the little girl’s death, based on DNA evidence. Well, amid the fawning over that announcement by TV talking heads, those who have actually reported on this story for years greeted it with less enthusiasm. The JonBenet crime scene was a disaster, and what DNA was available has always been questionable at best, misleading at worst. Lacy, meanwhile, has all along tried to exonerate the Ramseys, and few longtime observers are surprised that she’d make such an announcement as her swan song.
