The French are skipping lunch, and the four horsemen can’t be far behind.
Seriously, though, the spate of dreary news about food prices, shortages and contaminations is starting to get awfully depressing. And now the UK Times is reporting that their neighbors across the Channel are not eating and drinking the way they used to.
Francis Attrazic, the vice-chairman of the French Union of Café, Restaurant and Hotel Owners is quoted:
“Lunch is disappearing almost completely a lot of the time, people don’t always have an apéritif any more and the evening meal is being lightened.”
Apparently, French lunches are turning into quick sandwiches and salads—luckily, there’s no mention of munching them desk-side, American-style.
