Dance companies are always experimenting with new and highly creative ways to distinguish themselves from the pack. These days, the buzzword seems to be “multimedia,” but Headlong Dance Theater takes a dive back into the simple and manages to come up with something refreshingly original: a performance at a swimming pool. The Philly-based company brings their 2004 hit Hotel Pool to New York at last, as part of the River to River Festival and the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council’s “Sitelines 2008” Series. The piece takes place at the Rector Square indoor pool and is about a businesswoman’s “meditation on vulnerability, competition, and the power of memory over time.” Hope there’s a lifeguard around.
