Split the Atom is all about having the right rhythm and wrist technique; Suicide—as the name implies—is a bit more difficult. In the world of yo-yo enthusiasts, accomplishing both is a great feat. So you can only imagine the excitement at last year’s first International Yo-Yo Open and New York State Yo-Yo Contest when Paul Han—sporting a cap, black-rimmed glasses, Army shorts, and a smile—Split the Atom, committed Suicide, Rocked the Baby, and pulled off a few dance moves, ultimately taking first place. This year, he and others will return to defend their titles within the divisions of “freestyle” and “sport ladder.” The two-day event includes DJ sets, breakdancers, yo-yo collectors, shopping, and music by the Japanese action-punk band Peelander-Z, who love to color-coordinate their manga-inspired costumes. Screw the Olympics; this summer, it’s all about the yo-yo. ARACELI CRUZ. At 11:00am, South Street Seaport, Pier 17, 207 Front St., 212-732-7678, free. More things to do on Saturday over here.
