Budget Follow-Up: Lawmakers Give Paterson 2/3 of His Cuts

The extraordinary Tuesday meeting between Governor Paterson and state legislators reported here early has resulted in approximately $400 million in budget cuts, reports NY1 — roughly $200 million short of the figure upon Paterson earlier insisted.

NY1 said much of the cutting was done on the “state and city university systems, local services and aid, and member items.” The legislators denied Paterson cuts to “direct aid to health care facilities,” “the tuition assistance program,” and “aid to local governments,” says the New York Post.

The North Country Gazette added that the State Senate approved a constitutional spending cap limiting year-to-year expenditures to four percent growth, which awaits the judgment of the Assembly.
