Brooklyn’s always on point, and Brooklynite Gallery will show you why. To celebrate the BK-based artist Aiko’s first solo show, Shut Up and Look, the gallery is throwing the sickest party in recent memory. The Japanese native is a master stenciler whose work can be simply and accurately described as cool-ass street art. A founding member of the artist collective Faile, Aiko made a name for herself with gritty fairy-tale pieces wheatpasted in major cities around the world. Now on her own, she’s channeling her feminine side, with ultra-seductive works that take inspiration from both Japanese and American pop culture. Since Aiko’s work radiates Brooklyn street life, her opening will also feature a performance by the legendary ’80s hip-hop masters Soul Sonic Force. They may even whip out the old classic “Planet Rock.” We should all be so lucky.
