Mayor Bloomberg’s lawsuits against out-of-state gun owners may have inspired East Villager Calvin Gibson, who was shot by a schizophrenic man at Avenue D and East 7th Street in July. Gibson blames Craigslist in part for enabling the sale of a gun to his assailant, and is suing the website for $10 million, reports the New York Post.

Smoking and drinking are prohibited at the Deutsche Bank worksite, where two firemen were killed in a blaze that is thought to have been caused by a carelessly discarded cigarette. But “empty cigarette packs and beer cans were found on several floors” of the site recently, and the New York Daily News reports the outrage of civic officials and the father of one of the dead firemen.

John Edwards was supposed to speak at Hofstra on Monday. amNY says he isn’t going to make it.

Flushing’s Yu Ming Liu is in police custody, accused of stabbing his roommate to death. The unidentifed victim was found in the hallway of their apartment building at 136-05 Sanford Avenue, says 1010WINS.

Gothamist announces that the annual Deitch Art Parade, planned for this Saturday on West Broadway between Houston and Grand Streets, has been cancelled due to expected inclement weather.
