Manhattan magazine debuts today. While there are no vendors of posh glossies within stumbling distance of our Brooklyn hellhole/satellite office, the magazine’s publisher, Modern Luxury Media (!), helpfully describes in a press release the premiere issue (“101+ pages of uptown hip and downtown chic”) of this pub dedicated to “the interests, sensibilities and 24/7 lifestyle of New York’s working affluent”:
Stylist Rachel Zoe “dishes on her new show” — a Bravo reality series described by the Los Angeles Times as a “glittering tale about the demands of success” — “rumors about her being a diva and how she deals with all the controversy she seems to stir up.” Manhattan also “sits down” with Swaim and Christina Hutson of couturiers Obedient Sons and Daughters.
There is a photo spread by Danny Clinch of School of Seven Bells, a laptop-centered Brooklyn band, shot in DUMBO.
There are also investigative reports on “an upsurge in wine forgery” and “the economics of New York [sports] teams and overspending on aging all-stars,” reviews of 175 restaurants, and “The A to Z of New York Design!” which would appear to examine museum, architecture, and design celebrities.
“There is an expectation,” says editor-in-chief Richard Martin, “that our reader will be exposed to content, brands and an aesthetic that plays directly to their interests and helps them enjoy the absolute best the city has to offer.”
