Humor and cruelty vie with each other in this complex story of a crippled girl who schemes to get herself, her estranged parents and their lovers to a country house all at the same time for a weekend of guilty embarrassment. Fassbinder noted that in this film he tells the story more through the endlessly circling camera than through the actors.
