Bloomberg Signs Term Limits Bill

At 2 p.m. the Mayor announced “I have listened for four and a half hours” of testimony. When it was clear there would be no applause, he said “this is New York” and “you have diversity of opinion.” He said he had “not changed my opinion on the value of term limits,” and would appoint a charter commission which would, presumably, “put it on the ballot for the public to reaffirm what we have, or to change it.” Also, “If you take a look at the real world… we live in a litigious society… we have real democracy and lots of people give input.” But in the final analysis, “I think three terms is better than two,” and that’s that. He signed the term limits bill and everyone split.
