Day of the Dead Riders Remember Slain Cyclists

There was another moving street event in New York yesterday: Time’s Up’s annual Day of the Dead observance, which memorializes local bikers who have passes to the unseen section of “the infinite bike lane.” About 25 bikers, many costumed in the manner of traditional Dia de las Muertas celebrants, paid tribute at the East Houston Street ghost bike of cyclist Brandie Bailey,[updated] killed by a garbage truck in 2005. Time’s Up told the Daily News they wanted “more bike lanes and safer bike lanes” in the city. (h/t EV Grieve)
