Drew Daniel is a true Renaissance nerd—he’s one-half of Björk-endorsed sound sculptures Matmos; he’s got a respectable house music project under the name Soft Pink Truth; and he’s got a fairly busy side-hustle as a fully legit rock writer. Tonight, he covers all his bases, starting with a reading from his recent 33 1/3 book on avant-confrontationists Throbbing Gristle’s 20 Jazz Funk Greats. His book is a mix of interviews and personal narrative, spilling from his deep firsthand knowledge of electronic music’s spiritual workings. Following a brief Q&A, he’ll flip open his laptop for a “solo dance music/noise performance” that should surely touch on the meticulous elements of Daniel’s projects as well as the impulsive spirit of Gristle. Proceeds go to Housing Works’ efforts to help the homeless living with HIV and AIDS.
