President-elect Barack Obama is “a gun-snatcher” who “wants to take our guns from us and create a socialist society policed by his own police force,” a concerned Texan tells the New York Times, which suggests that this sentiment is behind the 14 percent rise in U.S. gun sales in October of this year. The Times also says that “some gun buyers and sellers never forgot, or forgave” Obama for his “clinging to guns and religion” remarks that caused him so much trouble in Pennsylvania that he won the state with 54.6 percent of the vote.
A Thee Rant poster responds, saying that if the new President pursues a restrictive gun policy, “there will be a civil war that makes the previous one a footnote in history.” Another author warns Obama not to “make the mistake that these Americans will quietly and calmly turn over their guns in the face of a ban” and gives a Japanese quote about America having “a rifle behind every blade of grass.” Fortunately some of the people with whom Obama hangs out are gun owners themselves. photo via jthiggins57 (cc)
