A local law prohibits New York from dumping its old subway cars into its own coastal waters, so we’ve been shipping them off to New Jersey and Delaware at a cost of $6 million. Congressman Anthony Weiner says it’s time we put our disused public transportation to use as artificial reefs, NY1 reports. It’ll be good for the environment and the budget, which is nice, as the MTA is about to announce a billion dollar deficit. Say, maybe we should repurpose those old trains into affordable housing instead.
