Thousands Rally, TV Star Comes Out for Marriage Equality


Thousands rallied at City Hall on Saturday in support of marriage rights for gay folks. California’s passage of Proposition 8 spurred the demo, but the tone as portrayed in this video from New York’s LGBT Center was more forward-looking, with speakers (including council speaker Christine Quinn, councilmember Rosie Mendez, assemblyman Daniel O’Donnell, and MTV’s Kim Stolz) urging mobilization and continued activism. Similar rallies were held in other cities, including Las Vegas, where comedian Wanda Sykes added mainstream news value by coming out.
