New York

As sourdough bread requires wild yeast rather than domesticated ones, perhaps we can anticipate somewhat wilder fare when the Bread and Puppet Theater makes its annual New York appearance. These shows—one for adults, one for children—combine music, giant puppets, political discourse, and samples of the staff of life, centering on “the need for human fermentation.”

Wednesdays-Saturdays, 8 p.m.; Saturdays, Sundays, 3 p.m. Starts: Dec. 4. Continues through Dec. 21, 2008
