While the Yankees were out spending taxpayer money on superstars, the Mets were being nice to kids. Last week Mr. Met joined pitchers Mike Pelfrey, John Maine and new acquisition Francisco “K-Rod” Rodriguez at a holiday party for elementary school students from all five boroughs at the CitiCorp Building in Long Island City. Pelfrey played Santa, though he doesn’t have the build for it. (“If anyone asks,” he told Mets MLB News, I’ll say I’m on a health kick”). A teacher from nearby P.S. 111 tells the Queens Gazette, “A lot of [the kids] live in the area, but have never been to the CitiCorp Building before.” If that doesn’t give you the “awwwws,” well, go see the Ghost of Christmas Future, pal.
