Yesterday was my lucky day — I spotted a copy of 101 Fast Funny Food Jokes by Phil Hirsch (New York: Scholastic Books, 1983) sticking out of a trash can in Bay Ridge, and decided to use it as an excuse to inaugurate a new Fork in the Road feature. Who doesn’t like a bad food joke? Here are some samples from that sainted volume, beloved of six-year-olds:
Where do they hold prizefights in Fastfoodland? In an onion ring!
Why did the man climb to the roof of the fast food restaurant? The told him the meal was on the house!
Where are the best tacos served? In the Gulp of Mexico!
What is the vampire’s favorite snack? Neck-tarines!
Would octopus make a good fast food? You must be squidding!
What food is essential to good music? The beet!
Where do burgers like to dance? At a meat ball!
