The hit Broadway musical Avenue Q is having a contest to replace the song lyric which says that everything in life–including George W. Bush–is only for now. I think they should keep it; it’s more relevant than ever! But they insist on finding a replacement lyric, and to get press, they’ve enlisted the public to give suggestions. (Check out www.avenueq.com for details.)
Says the release: “The ‘Only for Now’ contest invites participants to enter their suggestion for a new person (not necessarily a political figure), place, thing, event, fad, etc. to be considered as a substitute for the soon-to-be-outdated reference to George Bush in the musical’s finale. The winning entry will be announced Thursday, January 15th and will be performed in AVENUE Q on Tuesday, January 20, 2009, the day Barack Obama is inaugurated as the 44th President of the United States.”
So this is your chance to win a Tony award for Best Book of a Musical! Or at least maybe get a free ticket! So what should the new lyric be? The Kabbalah? Shia Le Whatshisname? High School Musical? Boniva? Rectal leakage?
