The Katie Holmes Stimulus Package

We’re in such bad shape financially that the state tax department has stopped sending out forms to save money. But there is a ray of hope: this weekend’s Page Six magazine reports that since arriving in New York to work on All My Sons in July, Katie Holmes has pumped $14 million into the local economy. Granted, most of that went to the three lofts (!) she and husband Tom Cruise have purchased, but they did spend nearly $14,000 on child care and $7,000 on gym equipment as well. Plus you know how it is with the mega-rich: their spending level never falls very far, so if they’re tired of buying living quarters, they’ll just make it up buying a public park or an elective office. The only problem: All My Sons is closing. Surely a burst of demand could save the show and keep Holmes around? Maybe Cruise could take over from John Lithgow. He’s obviously looking for the sort of respect Broadway can give — why else did he appear as a Nazi during the holiday season? Please go see the show, folks. You might run into a celebrity.
