Filmmaker Emily Hubley has a knack for animated storytelling, a trait she acquired from her parents, the late pioneering animators Faith and John Hubley. Never a conventionalist, Hubley explores life’s emotional ups and downs through a dreamy lens. Her first feature-length film, The Toe Tactic, which gets its theatrical premiere tonight at MOMA, tells the story of Mona Peek, a young woman who, while mourning the death of her father, discovers that her destiny is being manipulated by four dogs playing a game of cards. (See, we told you she was unconventional.) David Cross, Eli Wallach, Marian Seldes, Andrea Martin, and Don Byron perform the voices; Yo La Tengo provide the soundtrack.
