The Pretenders released Break Up the Concrete right around the time that Obama swept the elections, and their first album in six years is a little bit rockabilly (perfect fit) and a little bit pop ‘n’ roll (as usual). With only nine studio albums in three decades, the band hasn’t been prolific in the recording department, tut this one stands out as a comely comeback that hypes bandleader Chrissie Hynde’s versatile songwriting. The country-rock combo is an ingenious throwback to their earlier days. With American Bang.
