Steve Cardenas Quartet

Part of a local scene that applies itself with offhand authority, the guitarist has earned himself some house the last few times I’ve caught him with Ben Allison & Man Sized Safe. He’s got a wily way about him, whether cracking rhythmic punctuations or snaking along in cahoots with his mates. This date in the cozy cellar finds him with saxophonist Chris Cheek, drummer Matt Wilson, and bassist Allison, simpatico buds who will bring an effervescent vibe to the room. Which makes sense: Cardenas is celebrating a b-day.
