The true beauty of all those glossy fashion editorial images that you see in magazines doesn’t merely lie in the product or the model, but in the photographer’s message and the versatility of the themes exposed. Just in time for Fashion Week, the International Center of Photography examines these images in Weird Beauty: Fashion Photography Now, an exhibition organized by Carol Squiers and former Voice editor Vince Aletti that looks at the photographer’s inspiration—whether it’s history, youth culture, literature, current events, or sex. In addition to original photographic prints, you’ll see hundreds of tearsheets and magazine covers by a range of artists including Steven Meisel, Cindy Sherman, Steven Klein, and Tim Walker.
