James Franco Recommends Carl Wilson’s A Journey to the End of Taste at the Oscars

by

Zoilus is oddly (modestly?) quiet today, but Carl Wilson had his 33 1/3 book Let’s Talk About Love: A Journey to the End of Taste recommended by James Franco on the Oscars red carpet last night. Since these books are labors of love in a bizarre, almost impossibly quixotic sense, it’s good to see Wilson get some profile on national television. I can’t think of any other writing project right now where the reward is more uncertain–some books in the series, like Douglas Wolk’s Night at the Apollo or John Darnielle’s Master of Reality, do quite well, are reviewed, etc.; others seem to vanish almost immediately. Quality probably has a lot to do with it: the series, as the latest shortlist indicates, remains a rare and uncommon platform, as long as you’ve got something rare and uncommon to say. [Idolator]
