Times Reviews Swing Club, Finds It Clean But Unsexy

The latest club to be reviewed in the New York Times is located “between the Gowanus Expressway and a cement plant.” They can’t give more details because it’s a swing club where New Yorkers, including “hairy-chested buzzards” and “Spandex matrons from the suburbs” gather to have anonymous sex. The Times even provides a panoramic view of the space, which careful readers will note looks tidy at least, if not worthy of a spread in Dwell. Reporter Alan Feuer confirms that the place is clean, and possesses an “ambience of innocent eroticism”; even better for the public sex enthusiast on a budget, “the cover charge will not break the bank.” The downside is the sex, at least as portrayed in Feuer’s metaphors,”mauled each other with the energy of terriers mating” and “writhing like a piece of burning paper.”

It’s a world away from our favorite Twitter feed, New York Escorts, which this week links to a “Beautiful Russian Girl” who “IS WAITING TO MAKE YOUR TIME VERY PLEASANT,” and also to a notice for an “All India Escort” club, for those of you who are still caught up in Slumdog Millionaire fever. In anonymous sex, it seems, you get what you pay for. Image via Fred R. Conrad/The New York Times.
