Who knew? It turns out that Bette Davis–she of the rolling eyes, swiveling elbows, and two Oscars–had her own 1965 sitcom called The Decorator! Except it was never picked up! Take a gander at this hilariously unfunny chunk of the Aaron Spelling production and see just why. Bette plays a down-on-her-luck interior decorator who finagles her way to fixing up the house and life of crusty old Ed Begley, assisted by wisecracking Mary Wickes. For me, one of the few highlights is when Bette emits the expression “carte blanche.” It vaguely evokes her immortal screeching of “Blanche!” in Whatever Happened To Baby Jane? three years earlier. How gay am I?
