Don’t like the way your kid’s school is run? Then go run yourself — for your local Community and Citywide Education Council. The CECs replaced Community School Boards in 2004. We’re not sure how powerful they really are, and the DOE page about them is no help, but there are nine parents elected to each 12-person Council, and if you want to make a stink about a school, it couldn’t hurt to have an elective office. Bed-Stuy Blog tells us the deadline for application has just been extended to March 19, and you can apply online to be a candidate. The elections will also take place online, May 12-14, with an online “straw poll” on April 6-12. Start digitally campaigning now!
