New South Street Station Opens; Water Follows

Last week we told you that the new South Ferry subway station had leaks. This we attributed to the station’s new environmentally-aware decorations, which were luring Mother Nature into it. Yesterday the station opened, and shortly thereafter a water main broke near Canal Station, wetting the tracks and disrupting 1 train service, which appears to be restored today. The situation is beginning to resemble a cross between Daylight and The Entity. Nonetheless, until the planet claims it as its own, the new station offers sufficient platform space that riders need not debark to the first five cars so that they can leave the train at South Ferry, and that’s worth a little dampness.
