An intriguing double bill. Baum, the flutist-composer, has recently been absorbing Ives, and last year’s Solace was a heartfelt smooch that demonstrated how measured forms can be as provocative as overarching extroversion. You’re right if you think the key lies in interplay. It might be said that Stanko, the Polish trumpeter, knows about measure forms as well, but his always dazzling, occasionally forlorn Euro extrapolations have more to do with the lyrical disquiet of individual reflection.
