Featuring members of epic post-rock institution Mogwai and sludgers Iron Monkey, Crippled Black Phoenix is no doubt a heavy proposition prone to fits of ecstasy and wandering. A doom-obsessed band, naturally signed to the label run by Portishead’s Geoff Barrow, CBP is a little mellower than their name implies but no less moody. Their 200 Tons Of Bad Luck explores all areas of meandering bummer beauty: Can’s hypnotic pulses, Acid Mothers Temple’s stoner fuzz, Neurosis’s apocalyptic sample techniques. With Ascent of Everest and Charles Atlas.
