Sometimes he seems like a bit of a crackpot, but you can’t write off John Liu. Remember the stink he made, as transportation chair of the council, about getting GPS in school buses? After years of struggle, he’s about to get ’em. He got something else last night: the endorsement for comptroller of the Working Families Party, smoking councilmembers Katz, Yassky and Weprin. WFP cited Liu’s “vision for
a Comptroller who fights for living wages jobs, affordable housing, and
responsible contracting.” Liu hasn’t been in the race long, having been looking at the public advocate’s chair until Mark Green got into that race, but the WFP’s powerful endorsement (the value of which is evident to Mayor Bloomberg) is big leg up for him.
