Although the Twins have only been mediocre so far this year—sounds like a good match for the Yankees—a few of their players are on fire, namely two-time batting crown winner Joe Mauer at catcher, slugging first baseman Justin Morneau (14th in the league as we go to press), and right fielder Denard Span (15th). But, as we all know, just hopping the number 4 train to 161st Street isn’t an easy thing to do unless your wallet can take some heat, so try one of our favorite Yankees sports bars: If you can’t afford a ticket, you can at least admire the façade as you walk over to Yankee Tavern at 72 East 161st Street. A neighborhood restaurant with a large dining room and passion for the guys in pinstripes, they’ll take reservations for large parties. And they make a mean corned beef and pastrami. If you don’t want to trek up to the Bronx, stop by Paul’s Heavenly Burgers at 131 Second Avenue (near St. Mark’s). Our favorite is the El Paso Burger, loaded with cheddar cheese and other goodies—jalapeños are optional. Wash it down with one of their great varieties of domestic and imported beers.
