It’s supposed to be ironic, you see. And it’s guaranteed to be a trip. The No Fun Fest, Carlos Giffoni’s three-day cacophony of experimental and noise bands, is actually terrific amusement, albeit for those who love violating feedback, defiant vinyl, and a rare, tight-knit scene of true music-worshipping deviants. Once held in a particularly tumbleweed patch of Red Hook, the merriment has steadily upgraded artists and location—this weekend, bask in the perspiring embrace of Williamsburg’s best venue (and the only one with a demonic address) for such squall heavyweights as Skullflower, Bastard Noise, Thrones, Axolotl, and . . . who else? Oh, yeah, one Sonic Youth. Now, that doesn’t sound fun at all.
