According to recent interviews with Shins frontman James Mercer, the indie-pop band that was supposed to change your life is changing their own. After Mercer decided there was something more to his side project with Modest Mouse drummer John Plummer, he replaced longtime skinsman Jesse Sandoval with Plummer and, for good measure, keyboardist Marty Crandall with Fruit Bats’ Ron Lewis. Additionally, he says the group’s new songs, of which “Double Bubble” and “The Rifle’s Spiral” have been on recent set lists, will be more “uptempo” (his word) than their previous work. Oh, inverted world, indeed. With the Delta Spirit.
