Glory be, strawberry season is upon us, and at least three farms at the Union Square Greenmarket are selling them today. Above, Yuno’s Farm is peddling the smaller, darker berries (some as tiny as a marble), the kind you see growing wild.
Some of those berries are so dark they’re almost maroon. They have a wonderfully concentrated, intense, wine-like flavor.
Race Farm from New Jersey is offering the bigger strawberries and they’re great, too. Plus, rhubarb is still at it’s peak, so let’s make a strawberry-rhubarb pie.
