Otto Preminger brought his customary objectivity (and mastery of the wide screen) to this adaptation of Evelyn Piper’s psychological thriller in which a single mother, played by Carol Lynley, is effectively punished by the disappearance of her daughter on the first day of school—that is, if little Bunny ever even existed.
