(Miika Soini, 2008).
The protagonist of this Finnish film is an elderly man who lives simply in a basement apartment. He rarely ventures out, but when he does, the outside world cuttingly reminds him of his old age and of a troubled past he’d like to forget. This touching portrait of loneliness is distinguished by a remarkable performance from 81-year-old Lasse Poysti in the title role, who avoids any big emotions, but everything the character feels is in this talented actor’s eyes.
