On Monday, we got very excited about the arrival of strawberry season, and commenter Liz noted that we could use those early strawberries to make an infused tequila called tequila por mi amante, or tequila for my beloved. Just the name made us want to try it, and a little internet research yielded the information that the recipe is from The Gentleman’s Companion volume II: Being An Exotic Drinking Book or Around the World with Jigger, Beaker and Flask, published in 1946, and that people really, really love it.
The original recipe calls for one pint of tequila and one quart of strawberries. we just filled up a jar with one quart of hulled, halved strawberries and added as much Cazadores tequila would fit–about 3/4 of a 750ml bottle. Now we wait 21 days, until July 1st, when we will crack it open and feed it to our beloveds.
