The weird, rarely sighted Brooklyn trio Mr. Dream make blunt, devolved songs about cult movies from the early ’90s and cult bands from the late ’00s, but their proto pigfuck punk could just as easily have been lifted off a late Wipers record, or an early Nirvana demo tape. They play here with fellow locals Acrylics, who are throwbacks of a different sort: dazed, glazed male/female-vocaled pop of a certain stately precision, riddled with unfashionable references to everything from featherweight brat-pack slow jams to ’70s soft rock. Both bands provoke a kind of pleasant mixture of nostalgia and déjà vu—decent relief from the now, now, now of your typical Monday night at the Cake Shop. With Crash Diet Crew and DJ Justin Miller.
