Cop Car Hits Caddy, Jumps Curb at Avenue D and 5th; At Least 8 Hurt

Around 4:15 this afternoon a patrol car speeding north on Avenue D hit a Cadillac that was turning onto the avenue from East 5th Street, jumped the curb, and hit at least eight pedestrians. The cops, three occupants of the Caddy, and some pedestrians have gone to Bellevue, and some victims are said to be in serious condition. Reports vary, but either the patrol hit its lights and siren at the last minute or didn’t hit them at all, and were “going really fast, too fast,” a witness told the Daily News.
