Not far from where Joe Holladay got gay-bashed, another Manhattanite got jumped and beaten up the following morning. Michael Doane, 40, was walking his dog on East 84th Street around 3:20 on Sunday morning when a couple of guys jumped him, fractured his skull and broke his nose. Meanwhile, Holladay is getting ready to head back to Boston; at a press conference this afternoon he thanked city officials and the NYPD for their attention to and investigation of his assault. He also called for increased attention to hate crimes, which are regrettably on the rise in New York and elsewhere.
