Despite a White House campaign that convinced Steve Israel, Carolyn McCarthy, and other Democrats not to challenge Kirsten Gillibrand’s Senate seat in 2011 — yes, they’re being that cautious that early — Carolyn Maloney has stubbornly refused to rule out a run against Gillibrand, whom she considers an underachiever and insufficiently anti-gun. And why should she back off? A recent poll showed the longtime Congresswman running ahead of Gillibrand in a speculative race. Now a Maloney adviser says she’s definitely running. It seems everything David Paterson does comes up for review these days, doesn’t it?
