To many devotees, the Church are that pre-shoegaze, semi-goth rock, dream-pop Australian band of infamous cult status with decades’ worth of stellar songwriting. To others, they’re that one-hit-wonder band who did that golden song “Under the Milky Way.” Though they’ve been continuously active since 1980, this year is a particularly lively period: Two solo albums (one from lead singer Steve Kilbey, another from guitarist Marty Willson-Piper), a soundtrack, a new full-length, and two EPs.
