Baking is a science. Think you’ve perfected a pastry formula that would make your grandma proud? Then enter the Second Annual Great American Pie-Off in honor of the New York Theatre Experiment’s (NYTE) fifth birthday. Hoping to double last year’s guest list, the NYTE is serving up five celebrity judges (including Daniel’s executive pastry chef Dominique Ansel and Top Chef contestant Dave Martin) and ample amounts of prizes (from Apotheke, Town Tavern, and more), and is blending them together with a splash of drinks, a dash of Guitar Hero, and a pinch of friendly trash-talking among contestants. The end product is what the NYTE’s Allyson Morgan calls, “an afternoon unlike anything else in New York!” Whether you’re a “bake-a-phobe” or a fanatic, you’ll love sampling the cleverly named creations, like the “Spring Awakening Stole My Cherry” pie. Either way, you can factor out doing the dishes.
