A fortuitous meeting in an East London furniture shop led to last year’s most inventive Afropop mixtape, a collaboration of Malawi-born Esau Mwamwaya and the production duo Radioclit. The friendly yet challengingly promiscuous mashup matched Chichewa-language lyrics with M.I.A., Vampire Weekend, and Beatles hits, enhancing both sides of the equation while providing an appetizer for the band’s ecstatically fulsome forthcoming release, Warm Heart of Africa. Expect them to split the difference between these projects here.
