Our Town reveals that police have picked up a suspect in the gay-bash of Joe Holladay, who was swarmed and beaten on the weekend of the Pride Parade by men yelling anti-gay slurs outside a friend’s Upper East Side apartment.
The cops think 19-year-old Driton Nicaj, an Albanian immigrant who lives on East 84th Street — a block away from the incident — might also be part of a gang responsible for some of the other assaults in the area that may be bias attacks as well. He has confessed to a similar attack on Michael Doane the following day. Nicaj, who has previously been arrested for drug and DUI offenses in Pennsylvania, is currently charged with charged with robbery and aggravated harassment as well as a hate crime in the Holladay incident.
