PETA is up in arms over the latest Sam Neill ad for red meat, sponsored by Meat and Livestock Australia. The Kiwi actor has been shilling for MLA for years. A selection from this oeuvre illustrates the theme: eating meat isn’t barbaric, it’s primal.
Even if you agree with the message–and Fork in the Road, on most days, does–the ads feel insincere, as though they’re selling a brand of Hollywood science, the likes of which films such as Neill’s own Jurassic Park are based on. Or maybe it’s just that the age of the celebrity spokesperson is dead.
Chicken is for the birds?
